we’ve been rehearsing a new missa, written by the choir’s director himself.
today, some of the boys (ages 7-13) had questions about tomorrow’s premiere (it will be performed during a mass, quite appropriately):
boy #1 asks: “are we going to sing just that thingummy or other songs as well?”
director (who is also the composer): “we are just going to sing that thingummy.”boy #2 asks: “will we sing it in one piece or with interruptions?”
director: “if by interruptions you mean the lection, the gospel or the consecration, then there are going to be interruptions.”
he’s been working with children for years, but answering these questions as dryly and neutrally as he did… that’s a masterstroke of it’s own.
